Antique Amontillado, Fernando de Castilla

Bodegas Fernando de Castilla
Product Code: ON06NVFC

Tasting Notes

Very serious and austere Sherry with the classic greenish amber tint, typical of aged Amontillados of a rich golden colour. A real tang on the nose and palate with orange peel, eucalyptus, varnished wood, fennel and a myriad or other flavours and sensations on a background of stark dryness and tense acidity defeated by the overwhelming complexities – a really sublime wine. "Colour: Amber iodinated. Nose: Pungent and aromatic. Mouth: Almond elegant sensations. Envelope and dry. Long finish retronasal."

[GrapeCharacteristics] => alomino is a white wine grape from Andalucia, southwestern Spain. It is the grape variety used to make Sherry.
The chalky and lime-rich soils that characterize the Jerez terroir allow Palomino to achieve the must weights required for Sherry production. The variety has low acidity and is not suited to producing table wines

unblended, untreated sherries. Made from the finest wines, these range from the pale, light and elegant Finos to the unique Antique sherries and have received numerous international awards. The
brandies are made using only alambic distillates of selected white wines: primarily aged in new French and American oak and subsequently for long periods in sherry ageing barrels. Only the highest categories of brandy are made and it is rare to find such exceptional sherries and brandies made under one roof. With the increasing popularity of
sherries throughout Europe and the States, as an aperitif and
accompanying food, it is something that should be found in the cellar of every top restaurant.

[Notes4] => Following a recent trip to jerez, we are delighted to have acquired exclusive distribution for these top end sherries and brandies. we experienced a highly educational morning with jan pettersen, seen left, master of production and ageing of fine, unblended, untreated sherries. made from the finest wines, these range from the pale, light and elegant finos to the unique antique sherries and have received numerous international awards. the brandies are made using only alambic distillates of selected white wines. primarily aged in new french and american oak and subsequently for long periods in sherry ageing barrels. only the highest categories of brandy are made and it is rare to find such exceptional sherries and brandies made under one roof. with the increasing popularity of sherries throughout europe and the states, as an aperitif and accompanying food, it is something that should be found in the cellar of every top restaurant.
